HOUSE IN SEAL HARBOR
Maine, USA
1998-2004
This house is located at the exact point where the rising sun first strikes the continent of North America. Every aspect of the design celebrates a site overlooking the Gulf of Maine and the eastern horizon. Designed to the maximum allowable height the house seizes the very first rays of the sun. The interior surface of the house is of ship-lap wood painted high gloss white so light is reflected throughout the structure to the lowest level. Emerging from deep forest to raw, open cliffs, the walls of the house become increasingly transparent until the structure dissolves into planes of glass celebrating the experience of living with nature and the first light of day. There are neither curtains nor shutters designed in the house; fortunately the owners are early risers!
