APARTMENT IN BOSTON
Massachusetts, USA
1993
House Beautiful magazine referred to this apartment as “the luxury of less” and it is through the process of subtraction that the apartment achieves its architectural strength. Every aspect of the design is minimal from the division of spaces to the details of doors, cabinets, and the materials of grey stone, white plaster, stainless steel and frosted glass. In minimalism what is celebrated is that which remains, subtle color, materials, views, space which is valuable in an urban situation...the luxury of less. Yet within minimalism there is humanism and here a gap by the frosted glass wall of the bedroom allows for the passage of the family cat.
